September 1, 1944, crashed, on the heights of the Tende's commune (high valley of Roya, Maritim's Alps), during an attack mission of a german mobile H.Q., a P-47 Thunderbolt from the free french force squadron 1/4 Navarre.
This plane was piloted by captain Jean-Marie Auber, who found death in his plane.
Captain Auber rest now at the national cemetery military of Luynes, in the Rhône delta.
July 7, 1992, following the research tasks made on the site by the association since 1989, and in collaboration with the air Base of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin was sealed, not far from the site of the crash , a plate in the memory of this valorous pilot.
The presence at the ceremony of the civil and military authorities, and mainly the army air general in retirement Philippe Maurin, was strongly emotional.
Indeed, Mr Maurin, in 1944, was captain, commander of squadron 1/4 Navarre
